Freeride: the true essence of snowboarding

Splitboarding in Sestriere
Have you ever wondered why carving and freestyle steal the spotlight, yet the moment a big snowstorm hits, everyone goes hunting for the perfect powder line?
The answer is simple: trends follow style, but deep snow calls to every snowboarder. Floating on a soft, silent blanket of snow and leaving a single track behind is an indescribable feeling. This is where snowboarding meets its true essence: Freeride.
It is all about freedom, instinct, and a genuine connection with the mountain.
For those who want to experience this beyond the boundaries of ski lifts, splitboarding is the ultimate next step. It allows you to reach remote backcountry routes, hidden valleys, and untouched slopes far from the groomed trails—extending your season and unlocking endless opportunities for exploration.
However, true backcountry freedom only has value when approached with proper preparation and safety.
That is why I am launching a dedicated Freeride and Splitboarding Course in Sestriere. This comprehensive program includes an introduction to off-piste riding, hands-on avalanche safety training (using beacon, shovel, and probe), expert splitboard instruction, and guided backcountry tours. You will gain the awareness, skills, and confidence needed to navigate winter environments responsibly and master the backcountry.
Splitboarding Courses in Sestriere

Splitboarding lessons in Sestriere are specifically designed for snowboarders looking to step into the backcountry gradually, building the technical skills needed to ride safely off-piste.
Your day begins with a practical intro to essential backcountry gear. You will learn how to operate your avalanche safety equipment (ARTVA, shovel, and probe), apply and remove climbing skins, transition smoothly between touring and riding modes, and master the mechanics of your splitboard.
After the equipment briefing, the session moves onto the slopes of Sestriere using the ski lifts. These initial warm-up runs allow you to get comfortable with your board while giving your instructor a chance to assess your riding style and adapt the day to your skill level.
Next, you will tackle your first short uphill ascent on skins, utilizing the lift network to keep the initial elevation gain manageable. You will learn proper uphill skinning techniques and immediately put them into practice—leading you into a completely off-piste itinerary for your first authentic splitboard freeride experience.
